I am so excited to share with you what this food blog has to offer. There are so many ideas, how-tos, hacks and just pure fun that I am super thrilled to write about.
I wanted to start this blog by telling you a little bit about myself, why I created this blog, and what to expect.
Who is Deva?
Here's a little bit about me!
I was born and raised in the South-Eastern part of the United States by close-knit and large South-Indian family that gave me strong and positive role-models. I was taught to respect and maintain my Indian culture, heritage, religion, language and, of course, food traditions.
Today, I live in Southern California with my husband of almost 2 years and we are super compatible foodies!
Why I created this blog?
I always loved being in and around the kitchen; whether it was my Dad making waffles for breakfast, my Mom making Mexican bean burritos or my Ammamma (grandma) making idli and sambar. I had a passion for food, its creation, its taste, its looks, and its presentation; I remember at 6 years-old putting a little toy flower in a vase and placing it next to my bowl before eating a breakfast of Waffle Crisp (if you remember this cereal you are cool kids 😁)!
My cooking and baking experience started with helping my Mom make the typical American baked goods; cookies, cupcakes, brownies, etc. I always loved adding a little something extra to these concoctions, like M&Ms in the shape of a D for my birthday cupcakes, or a Hershey's kiss in the middle of peanut-butter thumbprint cookies. As I grew older, I began to experiment more and make things that were more challenging or presentation based; like trifles, baked macaroni and cheese, lasagna and more.
One of my dearest aunts always cheered on my culinary feats and constantly encouraged me to start a blog and I just laughed it off. Years went by and I finished my education, got married and moved across the country to start a whole new journey in life. I thought back to the requests to share my knowledge and help others find a way to make delicious and easy food in all different cuisines and decided to actively pursue my passion.
